A few weeks ago I came across the work of Maggie LaBaugh, creative chef and owner of Magpies Cakes. I was immediately taken by the delicacy and dainty-ness of Maggie’s creations. There is something so soft, feminine and bespoke about Maggie’s Cakes.
“Newly-launched Magpie’s Cake, serving the Washington DC metro area, is
quickly gaining a reputation as cake art.
A former classical ballet dancer, Chef and owner Maggie LaBaugh carries this aesthetic into her cake design by maintaining technique, elegance, symmetry, and line but doing so with ease and charm and a sense of freedom. Like an haute couture garment, all elements are meticulously sculpted and hand-painted, while the overall effect remains clean and light. Maggie graduated with honors from The French Pastry School in Chicago and immediately began an internship at world-renowned restaurant, Charlie Trotter’s. Her commitment to excellence extends to her flavor profiles which include Mexican Vanilla Cake with Earl Grey Ganache and Vietnamese Cinnamon Cake with Hazelnut Praline and Cappucino Buttercream.”
They say that life experience shapes an artist. I couldn’t agree more when looking at this image. The top tier detail for me of this cake takes me back to my childhood when I used to watch the Ballet over and over again on the TV. Beautiful soft ballet skirts and silk point shoes, outstretched arms and joy.
Thank you Maggie for sharing your beautiful creations with us! We wish you every success with your new business and can’t wait to see more of your deliciously gorgeous work!
Take Care
