Amy and Matt's Wedding

the love story

Tell us about your love story so far. How did you meet, what was the proposal like?
We moved to Darwin early in our relationship. When back in Adelaide, on our 2 and a half year anniversary, Matt sent flowers and a gift voucher for a day spa to my work. I left work and was pampered until we met for lunch at a city hotel where he presented me with a room key. After spending the afternoon relaxing at the hotel (still oblivious to anything going on), we headed down to what I thought was a work function at the Botanic Gardens and there was a horse and carriage waiting. Matt proposed straight away with the most beautiful heartfelt words and the most stunning ring. After a tour around the city on the carriage, we had champagne on the river and then went back to the hotel where our room was now covered in candles and rose petals with a three course dinner in our room and champagne. Our future wedding song was playing as we walked in. The next morning, yet another surprise came and Matt flew me to Cradle Mountain in Tasmania for a week. When we arrived here, a gorgeous gown was waiting for me to wear and it fitted perfectly! When we got back, our puppy had balloons around her neck and our families were waiting to congratulate us.
How long was your engagement?
Ten months
Tell us about “The Dress”
Caleche design, designed and made to measure. All over beading, covered buttons, tulle straps. It was stunning and I loved getting into it on the day.
The Grooms Attire:
Matt wore a Pierucci suit- light colour to suit our beach location.
What were the elements that made your wedding unique?
Our families released butterflies as we had our first kiss as husband and wife - it made for some great photos. We also had a wine sharing ceremony as part of our official ceremony.
Ceremony Location:
Soldiers Memorial gardens, Port Elliot.
Reception Venue:
Flying Fish Cafe, Horseshoe Bay, Port Elliot.
Photography Hot Spots:
Green Bay, the local railway station and park, Horseshoe Bay beach and jetty.
Flowers:
Lee at Wyld Orchids did amazing arrangements of light pink and white peony roses.
Was there a theme?
We sort of had a pink and rose petal theme. We had a pink rose petal aisle, pink rose bouquets, flowers in the bridesmaids hair, pink chair sashes, rose petals strewn on tables, flowers on and around the cake etc.
Details about the cake:
Melanie at lavish Cupcakes did the yummiest and most beautiful cake. It was a three tier cake with swirls all over and sugar flowers. The flavours were Marble Mud Cake with Frangelico and White Chocolate and Raspberry with Baileys. We had figurines made of ourselves and our puppy which gave everyone a good laugh.
What moment took your breath away:
Seeing my soon-to-be husband crying as he first saw me and as I walked down the aisle. The love I felt was incredible. Also, his and my mother's speech.
Where did you go for your Honeymoon?
Matt surprised me and he did an incredible job! He took me to Las Vegas, Mexico, The Caribbean Islands, Puerto Rico, Jamaica and LA. I never imagined it could be as good as it was.
Tips for brides and grooms planning their wedding:
Be organised the whole way if possible so there is as little left in the last couple of weeks as possible; celebrate the half way point (between engaged and wedding). We went for pizza and champagne and reflected on how much we had done and how exciting the next few months were going to be; book your key suppliers as early as you can; don't be afraid to change your mind; concentrate on taking the day in. I can remember every single minute and I love that; grooms, send your fiancee flowers or a sweet card on the morning of your wedding- it means so much!; and Brides, spoil yourself with as many beauty treatments as you like in that week before your wedding. It's the only time you get away with it!
